Every once in a while, an exciting, innovative idea just drops into our lap and opens up a whole new horizon of great opportunity! “All Seasons River Inn” is one of those amazing ideas, and here at Destination Leavenworth, we’re very excited about it!
Formerly a bed and breakfast, in these recent months “All Seasons” has been completely redecorated and furnished to become a breathtaking little inn on the river. Every suite has an absolutely stunning view of the Wenatchee River right below it. This setting is absolutely the best!
As a small inn, these attractive self-contained suites can be booked individually to provide a really great and affordable couple’s getaway. Alternately, the inn can be booked as a whole unit for large groups, creating an ideal place for a family reunion, corporate retreat, or lodging for events.
Each individual suite is uniquely decorated after a particular river theme from various renowned sites around the country. The Colorado Suite is the largest, creating the perfect hub when the whole inn is booked as one unit. Rugged and earthy, the beautiful decor has a spacious Colorado canyon feel, with large, well equipped kitchen, dining room, game room, master bedroom, and very comfortable living room that features a lovely large fireplace.
The teal, grey, and white tones of the Columbia Suite reflect Washington State in its gorgeous artwork and design. Blue and white decor of the Kennebec Suite will make you feel like you are in New England, overlooking waves and lighthouses. The Rio Grande features rustic warm terra cotta earth tones and faux suede in a wonderful Southwestern style.
The Shenandoah Suite is decorated with a warm, rustic farm style featuring barn board and a fun “shabby-chic” decor. The Tennessee Suite beautifully reflects a Memphis Blues theme, and finally, the Yukon Suite brings the Alaskan wildlife atmosphere with pine walls and rock fireplace.
Most of the suites feature private indoor jacuzzis, most of them with windows overlooking that amazing river view. Several suites have private fireplaces, and all suites have both indoor and outdoor sitting areas, all overlooking the river view to create one of the most peaceful settings you can imagine.
Every suite is equipped with refreshment areas, each with a Keurig coffeemaker, a mini-refrigerator, and a microwave.
All Seasons River Inn is conveniently located right in the heart of hiking trails, golf, tubing, rafting and other river recreation, cross country skiing, and is located right between Stevens Pass and Mission Ridge Ski Resorts. On the quiet edge of town, the Inn is just a couple of miles from downtown shops, restaurants, and festivals.
This place cannot be more perfect for amazing couple’s getaways, or for larger groups. It’s new! It’s innovative! And it’s in the most perfect river setting you could possibly dream of! Woodsy Big Jim Mountain Lodge is Ideal!
By CARY ORDWAY
Next time you have a family gathering, 1or just want to get away with friends, consider retreating to the woods of the Plain Valley -- an incredibly beautiful mountain landscape just a half-hour's drive from the busy tourist town of Leavenworth.
It's a cabin-in-the-woods experience, far enough from civilization to bring you some quiet and solitude, yet close enough that it's easy to drive into town and enjoy the restaurants, shops and attractions of the Bavarian Village.
A big part of why people love the cabin-in-the-woods experience is that feeling of remoteness. Maybe it's something primal that conjures that feeling of Man vs. Nature, or maybe it's all those stories of our ancestors braving the new world in primitive one-bedroom frontier cabins.
Except in this case, there's nothing primitive about the experience. It's closer to Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous than Grizzly Adams.
We rented one of the many beautiful summer homes available through DestinationLeavenworth.com, a Leavenworth property rental company that specializes in upscale vacation retreats. Called the Big Jim Mountain Lodge, our rental is located only four miles from the town of Plain, 12 minutes from Lake Wenatchee State Park and 30 minutes from Stevens Pass or Leavenworth.
The Big Jim Mountain Lodge is a big, fancy log home, just like those places you see in magazines and on TV encouraging you to build a log home and adopt a different lifestyle. No need in this case to make the major investment in construction -- you and another couple or family could rent the place for the price of a couple of nice hotel rooms. It's perfect for someone who's always had a log home in the back of their mind, or for someone who just wants to pretend they can afford to own a premium vacation home that's nicer than most primary residences.
In case you're wondering how it got its name, Big Jim Mountain Lodge features a stunning view of Big Jim Mountain, named after the famous mountaineer, Jim Whittaker. The mountains of the Chiwaukum range are incredibly beautiful, and exploring the area around Plain will give you ample opportunity to soak up the best views that Nature has to offer.
The Big Jim Mountain Lodge is logs from top to bottom, top-quality construction that will be incredibly appealing to anyone who loves log homes. Nobody skimped when they built this place and, unlike many log homes that show logs on the outside, but then cover them up with sheetrock on the inside, Big Jim is a log home through and through. It all helps create that woodsy feel that we especially enjoy when we're staying in the mountains.
The lodge sleeps up to eight people and there are all the comforts of home, including a full kitchen, as well as a living and dining area. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and an en suite master bath. A second bath also is located on the first floor, and upstairs are two bedrooms and a recreation room.
The house lends itself to a lot of fun family time, playing games, cooking together, enjoying movies together, soaking in the hot tub or playing lawn games. Drive the short distance into Plain and it's fun to explore this quiet little village and browse the country store. If you don't want to cook, you can find good food at the local restaurant.
As we mentioned, Leavenworth is just a short distance to the south and an easy drive if you want to spend part of the day in town. If you head northwest, you'll come to Lake Wenatchee, one of North Central Washington's most popular lakes for recreation. Fishing, hiking and boating are popular on the lake and the views from Lake Wenatchee State Park are spectacular.
But, for many, the still of the forest is enticing enough to stay at Big Jim Mountain Lodge for a good part of their getaway, an ideal place to catch up with friends or family, relax or just read a good book.

TRAVEL AT A WHOLE NEW LEVEL
Travel is one of those impacting experiences that not only refreshes the mind and soul–which it does– but also broadens horizons, creating far better and more accurate ideas of people, places, and cultures that are very different than our own. That’s the magic of travel… of spending time in places that are very different from what we know.
My husband and I absolutely love to travel. We’re fanatics, really. We’ve found that there’s just nothing that compares to the thrill of discovering authentic ancient cities carved out of stone… castles that have witnessed centuries of exciting history… iconic landmarks that we’d only read about in books until now… of actually experiencing the sites that we’ve anticipated for a very long time.
Whether we’re in Paris, Florence, Copenhagen, Rome, or anywhere else in the world, we’re always captured by the innate need to feel part of that culture as much as possible– to feel it from the inside, not just from the outside looking in. Realistically, we know we’re never going to be able to actually live in any of these exotic places… but we can dream. And for the space of time that we’re there, we want to imagine that we actually belong. We’re not interested in being “tourists.” We want to pretend we really are Parisian, or Italian, or Danish…
Consequently, in Europe we never get our coffee at a Starbucks; we never lunch on a classic American hamburger while we’re there; and we never stay in a touristy hotel. Instead, we seek out local cafes, indulge in the cultural specialties, and go “home” at the end of the day to a cozy apartment or vacation rental tucked into a side street somewhere surrounded by locals.
That’s also why we believe so strongly in what we do: managing vacation rental properties in a beautiful Bavarian village surrounded by rugged mountains here in the Pacific Northwest. We love that we can offer the traveler a very unique European-styled experience surrounded by rivers, forests, and mountains- just 2 short hours from Seattle, yet a world away from it. It’s our work to help others completely enjoy the time they’ve carved into their schedule to become part of a place that’s completely different from their own.
We cater to the travelers who don’t want to be just “tourists” to our town. Most of them will never be able to live here– but for just a little while, they can come and dream that they belong in this beautiful place, staying where the locals stay, eating where the locals eat, getting their coffee at the local cafes.
While their minds and souls are being refreshed, these are the travelers who take their vacation dream even further, up to a whole new level– they truly “experience” what it feels like to live in the place. Through professionally managed vacation rental properties, we’re helping travelers who dare to dream!

One for the Birds
Ah, the blooming of wildflowers and the return of migratory birds: welcome to Spring! And welcome to Alpine paradise in Leavenworth! Here we celebrate Spring every year with a local festival called Bird Fest.
It's a remarkable little festival that offers something for everyone. Are you a casual bird observer who wants to get out with your kids? Come take advantage of the many free offerings on Family Day, Saturday May 20th. No advance registration is required for great low impact activities like the Family Nature and Bird Walk, as well as the hands-on science and art activities. Or you can expand your horizons and register for “Birding by Ear” to explore the art of identifying Flycatchers and Warblers by their songs.
And speaking of song, don't miss the Song Bird Concert at the Snowy Owl theater that same day, featuring local musical talent. (I know, because I found my son's name on the program while researching this piece. He's a high school senior and I guess didn't think he needed to tell his mom since he'll be flying the coop soon. Leaving the nest, so to speak. :-) Bad puns aside, I'm glad I found out because I never tire of hearing Jonah sing and play the piano and am confident you'll love him and all the others, too.)
If adventure is what you are after, Bird Fest offers activities that combine birdwatching with play. You can choose from river rafting, stand up paddle boarding, or kayaking, and a guide will take you down the river, helping you spot birds along the way. Mountain biking is another option, though I haven't been able to imagine looking through binoculars while navigating the twists and turns of downhill biking! Apparently it works because this is a popular event and has been part of Bird fest for many years.
Now for the serious birder hoping to make it a “Big Year,” or to anyone focused on identifying as many birds as possible. During last year's 4 day Bird Festival, there were 130 species of birds identified. These numbers can surely be attributed to the area's diversity. Whether your quest takes you to the mountains or the forests, to rivers or shrub steppes, or all of the above, you are sure to witness some winged friends thriving in this amazing area. Just think, after one weekend you could be nearly 1/5 the way to breaking a Big Year record!
Maybe your best bird watching will come from the deck of your local vacation rental. Bring a bit of bird seed along and treat your native guests right from your home away from home. Our family owned and operated business prides itself on providing the perfect accommodations for your special getaway. Whether you're coming with a crowd or as a romantic escape, we have lots of fabulous options. Click here . and don't forget to look for the coupon code under the “Specials” tab for Spring!

As long as I can remember, Leavenworth has always been a summer destination, not just because my grandparents lived here, but because the outdoor activities called to my adventure loving family. Growing up in Hawaii, we were no strangers to beautiful mountains and endless water play, but the Cascades and the surrounding rivers never disappointed. We spent our summers camping under the stars, waking to the chill of the mountain air and the smell of fresh pines. The cold mornings would inevitably give way to hot afternoons when the Icicle and Wenatchee rivers would become our base camps for tubing, swimming, and fishing. Or we would tackle one of the many hiking trails and reward ourselves with a dip in a glacial lake.
Fast forward 30 years to when I was raising my own family in Hawaii. We took our first winter trip to Leavenworth in 2007 and it was magical! For the first time in my life, I considered that perhaps a beach bum from Hawaii could be happy all year long in the beautiful Bavarian village of Leavenworth. Although there were 3 feet of snow on the ground and the weather was 30 degrees, the air was still and the skies were blue. I felt like we were in a snow globe. We built snowmen, went snowshoeing along the river, and spent an evening in town enjoying all of the lights and sledding on the hill while Christmas music rang out from the gazebo. To say we were sold on this area is an understatement. By the next June, we had moved our family of 6 and were putting down roots in Leavenworth, Washington.
One of the best surprises after settling in Leavenworth was how much I loved the changing seasons and how invigorating these transitions were to my soul. Spring is a delight to me. The earth has been asleep, but starts to awaken. Subtle signs of life are evident in the tender buds on the trees, the singing of the newly returned birds, and the speckled fawns shyly following the mama does. And then at once, spring is in full bloom and the earth is alive in all her glory! Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the way hiking here in the spring is like a treasure hunt, with wildflowers and birds waiting to be identified. The Arrowleaf Balsamroot are prolific! For their short lives, it is as if they are the heart of this town. I walk in them daily on our hillside that stretches across about thirty acres, always with a handful of children, 3 dogs, and 2 pigs in tow. While I can't promise you the experience of hiking with pigs in Leavenworth, if you come in the spring, you are sure to witness the beauty and wonder of the wildflowers coloring the hills and mountains of this beautiful valley!

Plain Red Cabin , located in the Plain area - about 25 minutes from downtown Leavenworth and sleeping up to 5 people is the perfect "get away from it all" kind of place and Cary Ordway of Northwest Travel Advisor, says Plain Red Cabin "Takes you back to nature". Check out his article below:
The nice thing about vacation rentals is that, if you choose carefully, you can find well-designed lodgings that have all the advantages of owning your own vacation home, but without the monthly mortgage. It's fun to pretend this is your cabin, house or condo to enjoy whenever you like.
Okay, you do have to go home eventually, but the vacation home experience will be memorable and is likely to become a regular family getaway. If you don’t return to this particular place, there are many more to choose from -- all without a mortgage.
We've discovered several such vacation homes in North Central Washington, our favorite part of the state because of the forests and lakes and trails, and sunny year-round weather. The latest is a cabin near Plain, a small town tucked between Leavenworth and Lake Wenatchee.
The Plain Red Cabin is what they call it. While not a cabin in the traditional sense -- i.e. log cabin -- the Plain Red Cabin has a great layout for a small family or maybe two couples (as we experienced it), with separate upstairs and downstairs bedrooms and bathrooms. The living room and kitchen are located together in a kind of great room with a high ceiling and loft upstairs. It's a great gathering place for you and your guests, especially with the gas fireplace.
Out on the deck is a hot tub with views of the Wenatchee National Forest. This is not a wilderness kind of lodging because it is located in a residential area where other vacation homes have been built on large lots. But the Plain Red Cabin is hidden away behind the trees and, for all intents and purposes, feels like it's the only place around. It actually was even a little difficult to find when we first arrived.
The cabin is great but, as they say, it's location-location-location when discussing real estate, and that also holds true when discussing your vacation home rental. The Plain Red Cabin is located in an area that is rich in beauty and loaded with outdoor activities.
Lake Wenatchee is just a few miles away, and offers excellent fishing, boating and other water activities. Kahler Glen golf course is within seven miles. The town of Plain is small, but it's less than two miles from the cabin and has a market, some restaurant service and a hardware store for various needs that might arise during your vacation.
Also just a few miles away is Mountain Springs Resort with its zip line adventures, horseback riding and, in winter, snowmobile rides. Sprinkled throughout the area are all variation of trails that are perfect for family adventures.
The Bavarian Village of Leavenworth is about 25 minutes away and, when you get there, you'll have many restaurants to choose from, as well as several blocks of small shops. City parks and hiking trails are close at hand.
But if a quiet retreat in the woods is your top priority, you may just want to hole up in the Plain Red Cabin , a comfortable, relaxing place to forget about work and every-day hassles and get back to nature.
For more information on the Plain Red Cabin , please visit www.destinationleavenworth.com or phone 866-904-7368.

Here's what he said about our town:
"Drive a little more than two hours east of Seattle and you might think you've teleported to Germany. This cozy, Bavarian-themed town is filled with German-style homes, shops, restaurants and hotels. The idyllic town center is an attraction in and of itself, and Leavenworth's annual calendar is dotted with lively festivals. Every December, visitors enjoy live entertainment, holiday sweets, and roasted chestnuts. More than half a million lights illuminate the town from October through February. Stores like Kris Kringl sell Christmas items year-round, as does the Nutcracker Museum and Nusskracker Haus, which offers one of the largest varieties of nutcrackers in the world."
Holiday Magic to be found in Leavenworth's Christkindlmarkt
Leavenworth Washington's Christkindlmarkt or Christmas Market is the perfect way to welcome the holiday season with your family! This special event is held on the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday after Thanksgiving Day.
Echoing a long held tradition in German speaking countries, children can make beautifully decorated paper lanterns which they can carry lit up in a magical parade behind an old world Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus to the "Christkind", symbolized by a girl dressed as a golden angel. Together everyone welcomes the arrival of the holiday season.
There are wonderful authentic Bavarian food booths and a variety of arts and crafts and other gift stalls that are the perfect start to your holiday, as local choirs and musicians serenade you with Christmas carols! Leavenworth's downtown shops and trees provide the perfect backdrop as they are hung with thousands of lights and ornaments. A sight not to be missed!

Northwest Travel Advisor features Edgewater Lodge
Edgewater Lodge -
Leavenworth getaway ideal for holidays
By CARY ORDWAY of Northwest Travel Advisor
The holidays are the perfect time to trek off to that cabin in the woods, start a fire in the fireplace and settle in for some quality time with the family, right? Only problem is there is something called “cabin fever†and, when you’re vacationing as a family, even the best of intentions can result in a mini-disaster.
So what to do when you have parents, grandparents and sane adults wanting to take it easy and watch the snow fall while you have everyone under the age of 39 clamoring to go “do something.†This cabin in the woods stuff, the kids will tell you, is just not all that it’s cracked up to be.
Solution: The Edgewater Lodge vacation rental in Leavenworth, the fun little town in North Central Washington that has been reborn as a Bavarian village like you would visit in the Austrian Alps. Whether you’re seeking that quiet cabin in the woods or a busy holiday filled with shopping and dining, the Edgewater will fill the bill.
The Edgewater is located on the edge of the Wenatchee River, directly across from Leavenworth’s Waterfront Park and, from this riverside location – believe it or not – it feels like you’re in the middle of the woods. This vacation home is set apart from its neighbors and right on the river. With its view of the Enchantment Mountains, it’s easy to pretend you’re spending your holiday in some far-off location away from people, and away from the everyday hustle and bustle of your job.
The “elders†in your family group will enjoy this private lodge and its gorgeous views and may well settle in for the duration. The lodge actually is three separate, but interconnected buildings. The middle building is the great room with a modern fully-equipped kitchen, a gas log stove and an open area for dining or playing games or just sitting and enjoying the view through the large windows. It’s also where you’ll gather as a family to watch TV.
Outside, a breezeway leads to a master 1bedroom suite on one side of the great room and, on the other side, a “bunkhouse†that has three separate river-view rooms and sleeping quarters, along with a full bathroom and kitchenette.
Altogether the Edgewater Lodge sleeps 10 although we were able to squeeze in our two daughters, our son-in-law and eight grandkids. The separate buildings were useful in allowing separate activities when different people wanted to do different things, but the great room was ideal for bringing everyone together.
The wildlife in the area was a big attraction as we watched birds and even an otter make their way along the riverbank. It snowed heavily while we were visiting, so it was fun to put on the boots and make our way through deep snow down to the riverbank. Snowballs were flying, spirits were soaring and one could just imagine Santa and his reindeer flying over the treetops and parking in what seemed like three feet of snow piled up high beside the lodge. Once we’d drenched shoes and clothing in the wet snow, it was time to warm up in the outdoor hot tub that is conveniently located on the Edgewater deck.
The kids really did enjoy playing on the large park-like property available for exploration and, in general, cabin fever didn’t set in for the younger set until sometime the second day. But, unlike a real cabin in the woods that requires a half-day’s hike to reach civilization, we just piled everyone in the car and went across the river to get our fix of the shopping, restaurants, events, music – and, of course the beer and brats – for which Leavenworth is so well known.
Cross-country skiing, inner-tubing and other winter activities were close by, so we had no shortage of options to fill our stay in the Leavenworth area. The Edgewater turned out to be a kind of cabin-in-the-woods with benefits – the kind of benefits that meant this particular holiday vacation really had something for everyone.

Destination Leavenworth is excited to let you know about the newest of our vacation rental properties, Cottonwood Shores. Sitting majestically on the beautiful banks of the Wenatchee River in Peshastin, this beautiful lodge is only 5 easy miles from downtown Leavenworth.
Formerly a very successful B&B, this spacious lodge features five master bedrooms, each with a private bath. Easily accessible to the shops, restaurants and festivals of the Bavarian village, yet tucked away in a peaceful, highly restful setting, Cottonwood Shores has the best of everything. Comfortably accommodating up to 12, this stunning lodge is perfect for a family reunion, a getaway with a group of friends, or a corporate/leadership retreat.
Lovely full view windows along the prow of the main level provide an absolutely gorgeous view that follows a relaxing bend in the calmly flowing river. In the summer, river rafters drift lazily by, and from the huge deck you might spot kayaks in the water, as well as amazing wildlife including river otters, osprey and eagles.
The living room is beautifully appointed with leather, wood and natural themes, and features a propane river rock fireplace, as well as a unique wagon wheel light fixture that was once an original Roy Roger’s Restaurant highlight. The kitchen is large and fully equipped, perfect for meal preparation for your big group, with ample seating for dining, enhanced by the gorgeous river view.
The upper floor features 2 suites– the Aspen, and the Alder each having a large private bathroom with walk-in showers and gorgeous vaulted beamed ceilings. The Alder room is equipped with a Queen sofa hide-a-bed.
On the lowest level, there are three more suites– the Cedar, the Pine, and the Cottonwood rooms, each with private bath. The Cottonwood is especially large, with a mini-kitchen bar, and sliding glass door for private entrance. The Cottonwood Suite also features a large in-room jacuzzi two-person spa. The lowest level also features a cozy and extremely comfortable family room with an electric ambiance fireplace and a small kitchenette for snacks and drinks, as well as TV. The Alder, Pine and Cottonwood bedroom suites have private televisions as well.
A private hot tub (professionally maintained before and after guests arrival) is located on the large deck, overlooking the river– a perfect setting in which to relax! The driveway is heated in the winter, so there’s no worry over getting snowed in.
Cottonwood Shores is a very special place that we know will become very popular! We’re happy to announce it as our newest acquisition.

Majestic Pines Lodge featured in NW Travel Advisor
Looking for the perfect idyllic getaway? Majestic Pines Lodge is the place to go says Cary Ordway, writer for Northwest Travel Advisory, who featured the Lodge in his article entitled "Pristine".
Tucked in the forest yet a short walk to Lake Wenatchee,Majestic Pines"offers anything most vacationers would want in a modern vacation home. It's 4,000 square feet and accommodates up to 14 people – with its many bedrooms and separate areas we could imagine it would work well for large groups. The home is decorated in earth tones, wood and slate and just has the feel of a mountain lodge with large wooden beams and lots of sunlight coming through the mammoth windows. There is a gourmet kitchen and a hot tub, ever popular with the kids we brought along – as was the widescreen satellite TV and games." says Ordway.
Using Majestic Pines as the "base of operations" Ordway "explored trails, rivers, the big beach at Lake Wenatchee State Park and lots of back roads that take you even deeper into the gorgeous Lake Wenatchee wilderness...There are two different experiences for those visiting in summer and winter. In summer it's hiking, fishing and lots of water activities; in winter it's cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, downhill skiing (30 miles away) and just simply enjoying the snowy landscapes."
Majestic Pines Lodge is just one of almost 50 properties managed by Destination Leavenworth, that include a superior selection of cabins, homes, condos and lodges in Leavenworth, Plain, and Lake Wenatchee areas.
