Lake Wenatchee offers a wide array of outdoor activities, but its majestic vista is best seen from high in the saddle. Enjoy a guided trail ride on horseback through serene meadows and valleys with the beautiful Cascade Mountains as your backdrop.
We have put together a list of several horseback riding options to choose from when planning your next getaway to Leavenworth:
Icicle Outfitters and Guides
Icicle Outfitters and Guides offers trail rides by the day or by the hour, guided summer trail rides, pack trips, fall hunting trips, and winter sleigh rides. The horseback rides can take place in Leavenworth and in Lake Wenatchee on gentle and trail-wise horses that are eagerly waiting to transport you through stunning high alpine country.
Two of their most popular rides are the 2-mile ride and 4-mile ride:
2-mile ride details:
The stable provides 8 guided rides daily, leaving on the hour (9am to 11am and 1pm to 5pm) from the stables at Lake Wenatchee State Park. The ride takes about 45-50 minutes and is suitable for all ages and abilities. Riders must be at least 6 years old to ride their own horse. Younger children may ride with an adult for ½ price. Reservations are recommended. Drop-in guests are welcome.
4-mile ride details:
Choose from a 9am departure or a 3pm departure. The ride is about one hour and 45 minutes long and is suitable for riders 6 years and older. No double riding. Reservations required.
Wild at Heart Horse Riders
Wild at Heart Horse Rides is located in a quiet valley 25 minutes from downtown Leavenworth. Rides are limited to 5-6 people for a more intimate experience, and their horses ride without bits and are kept “barefoot” – no horseshoes – allowing for a more natural and comfortable gait and cadence. There are several rides to choose from starting at 1.5 hour to ½ day rides that will take you on forested trails, past ponds and creeks, through picturesque mountain meadows.
Things to Know:
Each ride begins with an instructional demonstration on horseback. Helmets are required for all riders under the age of 18, and optional for adults. Complimentary riding helmets are provided, but riders are encouraged to bring their own helmet if preferred. Bike, skateboard, ski/snowboard or equine riding helmets are acceptable, as long as they fit properly.
Who Can Ride?
No children under the age of 6 may participate in any horse activities. No exceptions regardless of size or experience as per their insurance. All children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult and meet height and weight requirements. Please see chart and other FAQs here. No expectant mothers please.
Eagle Creek Ranch
Eagle Creek Ranch is a historic, four-season, family-owned and operated horse ranch, nestled in the Cascade Mountains eight miles northeast of Leavenworth. Enjoy a guided horseback ride through forested foothills in the serene and scenic Eagle Creek Canyon. Choose from a 40-minute ride to an hour and 40 minutes. Trips run April through October, and in the winter, you can enjoy a winter wonderland ride in a horse-drawn sleigh.
